The Coyote is part of the natural ecosystem of our Howell Mountain vineyard. It's diet year-long is mainly carnivore, but when the coyote starts to feast on grapes, we know it is time to harvest. The “Coyote Chief” is a term associated with a fancy looking winery dog that scares off coyotes despite his appearance.

A perfumed nose of purple flowers, ripe plum, black cherries and fresh sage. Powerful palate entry with concentrated flavors of blueberries, fig and crème de cassis. Mineral driven with polished tannins, currently showing youthfulness with nuances of toast, cacao, fresh tobacco and dried herbs. Enjoyable now yet built for the cellar.

Nested at an average elevation of 2000 feet, our vineyard is blessed with a unique micro-climate. Sunny and warmer than most of the valley before the daily morning fog burns off, cooler than most of Napa during the day. With an average yearly rainfall twice of the valley floor and with a unique volcanic ash/red clay soil mix that is excellent for high drainage, our vines are stressed to produce small clusters of tiny grapes. The smaller grapes have a higher skin-to juice ratio resulting in deeper-colored wine with higher tannin.

The 2022 growing season started off with very little rain after two consecutive years of historic drought. Frost during flowering season resulted of record low yields. Warm summer led to intensely-flavored, small sized berries. A freak two-week heatwave in September rushed us to pick our perfectly ripened grapes early.
