Tasting notes

Poured into a glass, the color is a characteristic deep purple-red, indicating its weight and flavor characteristics. The nose is intense, with plum and thorn fruit melding with peppery spice and earthy nuances. The palate is rich, with cherry and raspberry fruit harmonizing with mouth-filling plums, tart lingonberries, and juicy red apple. Elegant French oak-derived tannins provide structure and focus, accented by notes of sandalwood and toasted bread. Earthy notes of Syrah and sweet and spicy nuances like hoisin sauce are layered with the tangy spice of Petit Syrah, adding delicious depth to the rich wild berry compote flavors of Zinfandel and Grenache. In addition, the consistent flavors of French oak tie together the fruit and earth elements, highlighting the synergy of these carefully chosen elements.

Production
Terroir

This sumptuous blend is sourced from some of the best-known AVAs in Sonoma County. It extends from the benchlands (terraces) of Dry Creek to the slopes of Sonoma Mountain, from the mountains of Alexander Valley to the rugged ridges of the Sonoma Coast, and from the gentle hills of Sonoma Valley to the banks of the Russian River. From these distinctive regions, we select grapes from small parcels that combine a deep character of fruit, Sonoma's characteristic balance of tannin and acidity, and an elegant yet rich structure on the palate.

Vinification

The rich, complex structure of this wine is the result of a skillful blending technique that layers Petit Syrah, Syrah, and Malbec on a foundation of old-vine Zinfandel. Each lot of wine was vinified and barrel aged separately for six months prior to the initial blending process. Some lots, such as Zinfandel and Petit Syrah, which work well together, were blended early in the aging process, while other lots were aged longer on their own before being added. The final blending was done three months prior to bottling to allow time for the wines to come together and mature. We value elegance and finesse, and use a combination of light, medium, and medium-plus toast French oak barrels to ensure harmony with each varietal's character. This careful approach results in a seamless blend that beautifully blends the varietal character.
