Rainmaker Vineyard is located in the mountains overlooking the town of White Salmon, Washington, in a spectacular natural amphitheater terrain at an elevation of approximately 430 m. Part of the historic Mont Elysée Vineyard, planted in the 1960s and replanted in 2013, the site is in the Western Gorge district and is a wonderful area of the district. Cool mountain nights preserve crisp acidity, and the south-facing slopes of volcanic soils soak up the full summer sun. The dynamic Chardonnay grown here is used to make Gorge's own sparkling wine.
Serailo Vineyard is located near the summit of the Cascade Range, on a bluff approximately 305 meters above Underwood Mountain overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. The unique environment is a mix of maritime, desert, and alpine climates, providing ideal weather patterns for vibrant wines. 1973-planted Pinot Noir rows are Scott Henry-tailored and oriented north-south, and bunches are thinned to one per branch to maintain low yields. The soils are volcanic and dry-farmed.
- Vinification

This wine was made using the "complete second fermentation in bottle method (Méthode Traditionnelle)" throughout the entire process from vineyard to bottling. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed and no SO₂ is added. The primary fermentation took place in neutral barrels with natural yeasts, and the wine was bottled by hand in February 2020, with secondary fermentation and aging (en tirage) in the bottle for 5 years. It is classified as a "Brut Naturel".
Winery
- Winery Description
Syncline ('sin-klin): a trough of stratified rock in which the beds dip toward each other from either side. The winery is named after the Coyote Wall Syncline visible from the property.
Owners and winemakers James and Poppy Manton's winery and vineyards are located in the Columbia Gorge AVA, which straddles Washington and Oregon. They were part of the small group that founded the Columbia Gorge AVA in 2004. The AVA is divided into a cool, rainfall-rich western part and a semi-arid desert eastern part. They source grapes from both areas of this special region and from top-rated growers throughout Washington State.
Started in 1999 with only 76 cases by a couple who had been making Pinot Noir in Oregon, Syncline's winemaking philosophy has remained consistent. All wines are delicate and elegant. They have built a strong reputation as a creative, limited-production, autonomous estate winery with a vision of creating world-class wines while maintaining biodynamic estate vineyards, green building practices, and innovative winegrowing.
