Washington Hills Merlot 2022

Toasty coffee and vanilla aromas evolve into sweet notes of vanilla and cherry. Bright cherry scents accompany an earthy palate, characterized by smooth, round tannins and a silky finish.

Washington State has some of the largest diurnal temperature fluctuations of any region. Limited rainfall and up to 17 hours of sunlight during the peak growing season provide ripe fruit while cool nights maintain natural acidity.

The 2022 harvest had a slow start in Washington due to an unusually wet and snowy spring. Despite a few days with temperatures breaking 100°F, temperatures across the state tended to stay within the optimal ripening zone throughout the summer months. While autumnal rain falls further delayed the completion of harvest until late November, fruit was plentiful. The red varietals from this 2022 vintage have great color and intensity with earthy notes and big tannins.
