Created in 1968 in Bordeaux, the wine merchant company, "Les Vins Fins Anthony Barton" bears its founder's name. However, the true roots of the Barton family's merchant enterprise dates back to the eighteenth century.
Thomas Barton left his native Ireland in 1722 to settle in Bordeaux. He established a wine merchant company on the city's famous Chartrons Quay. Business was prosperous and he soon became one of the most powerful "wine shippers" of Bordeaux.
Six generations on, Anthony Barton, an Irishman like his ancestor, arrived in France in 1951 at the age of twenty-one, to join the family's wine-merchant company. The latter was to be sold to a foreign investor in the fifties and Anthony Barton continued to work in the company until 1967.
The Barton family have been sole owners of "Les Vins Fins Anthony Barton" since its creation in 1968. The company is currently managed by Anthony's daughter, Lilian Barton-Sartorius.
