Long Shadows Vintners was founded in 2002 by Washington wine visionary Allen Shoup, who was President and CEO of Chateau Ste. Michelle from 1984-2000 forged internationally acclaimed winemaking partnerships with Piero Antinori (Col Solare) and Dr. Ernst Loosen (Eroica Riesling). Long Shadows Vintners now builds upon those successes by bringing an elite cadre of the world’s most celebrated winemakers from the finest wine regions around the globe to Washington in order to create world class wines that showcase the viticultural excellence of Washington State’s Columbia Valley. Each celebrated vintner partners individually with Shoup and resident winemaker Gilles Nicault on a distinct winemaking program to produce a single “best of type” wine under a unique label. These include: Pedestal Merlot by Michel Rolland (international consultant and owner of Le Bon Pasteur, Pomerol); Sequel Syrah by John Duval (formerly of Penfold’s Grange, South Australia); Poet’s Leap Riesling by Armin Diel (Schlossgut Diel, Nahe, Germany); Pirouette by Agustin Huneeus (Quintessa, Napa Valley) and Philippe Melka (Bryant Family, Napa Valley); Chester-Kidder by Allen Shoup and Gilles Nicault (former winemaker at Woodward Canyon, Walla Walla Valley); and Feather by Randy Dunn (Dunn Vineyards, Napa Valley, formerly of Caymus), and Saggi by Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari (A. & G. Folonari Tenute). Long Shadows is named in tribute to the stature of this select group of individuals, who continue to shape the wine industry with their benchmark wines and wineries.

From this Winery
Notes of citrus, jasmine, pear and honeydew melon combine with an appealing level of minerality and acidity to provide a fresh and lengthy finish.
Sourced from German clone plantings and some of the Columbia Valley’s oldest Riesling vines, this wine offers classic and distinctive Riesling character.
Elegant and inviting with vibrant aromatics of fresh jasmine, white peach and hints of baking spice. Flavors of dried apricots and quince highlight a creaminess on the palate that is well balanced by the wine’s brightness and lively character.
The 2019 Nine Hats Chardonnay was sourced primarily from the Yakima Valley’s French Creek and Boushey vineyards. It is a cooler AVA that helps retain the Chardonnay’s acidity and elegance.
Vibrant aromatics of black cherry, espresso beans and bittersweet chocolate introduce this richly structured Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a multi-layered wine with expressive flavors of black and red berries complemented by notes of savory spice. Its luscious mouthfeel persists across a lengthy finish.
Several vineyard sites throughout Horse Heaven Hills and the Wahluke Slope were selected to source the fruit that provides its depth and complexity. Aged eleven months in French oak prior to bottling.
Inspired by the great wines of Germany and winemaker Armin Diel, proprietor of the renowned Schlossgut Diel.
Like previous vintages, the 2020 Poet’s Leap is a racy wine with aromatic notes of white lower blossoms, gooseberry and impressive minerality. On the palate, subtle flavors of apricot, honey, and white peach come into focus, with the wine’s lively, balanced acidity leaving a long, satisfying finish.
After 16 years as winemaker for Australia’s iconic Penfolds Grange, John Duval came to the Columbia Valley in 2003 as the “sequel” to his life’s work with Syrah.
Michel Rolland, Pomerol vintner and consultant to many of the world’s top wineries, teamed with Washington State wine visionary Allen Shoup to produce this limited release wine.
A beautiful, dark opaque wine with expressive aromas of black cherry, cinnamon, cocoa, oak spice and a hint of sweet violet. Rich and balanced on the palate with layers of huckleberry, bittersweet chocolate and dark fruit flavors that leave a bold, yet refined, impression on the finish.
Directed by Philippe Melka & Agustin Huneeus, Sr.Philippe Melka and Agustin Huneeus, Sr. teamed to combine the traditions of old world winemaking, the advancements of new world technology, and small lots from Washington State’s finest vineyards to craft this enticing red blend.
Dark in color with generous aromas of wild blackberries wrapped around a pleasantly earthy core that’s accented by hints of oak spice. On the mid-palate, graphite and black licorice are complemented by a burst of vibrant fruit that lingers across a lengthy finish. A beautifully integrated wine with a broad, polished mouthfeel.
Like previous vintages, the 2019 Saggi is a blend of two top Washington state Sangiovese vineyards, both planted in 1998 on sites with well-draining soils, important to managing Sangiovese’s vine vigor and berry size. Candy Mountain is a warm vineyard that delivers Sangiovese grapes with ripe, black currant aromas and flavors. Boushey Vineyard Sangiovese, grown in the Yakima Valley, is a cooler site that brings vibrancy and balanced acidity to the blend. Cabernet Sauvignon from the Horse Heaven Hills offers silky, refined tannins. Den Hoed’s Grandview Vineyard Syrah adds dark color and liveliness.
Acclaimed Napa Valley vintner Randy Dunn has a reputation for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. He brings more than four decades of winemaking experience to the Columbia Valley to produce Feather, his only wine made outside of California.
