With great depth of opaque red ruby color, our Merlot expresses ripe dark fruit aromas composed of dark cherry, ripe strawberry, Bay leaf, black pepper, arugula and sage. There is a milk chocolate nuance with integrated spicy oak. The entry and finish are smooth with integrated fruit resembling black cherry. Fruit, body and tannin hang in balance, with a crisp finish. The depth of fruit coupled with the richness of flavor provides a profile that delivers from the initial sip and continues on the palate for a very long finish.

Freemark Abbey was one of the very first wineries in Napa Valley, with a continuous history dating back to 1886. The stone winery which is still in use at the winery today was built at the turn of the century.
The winery’s tradition of winemaking excellence continues to this day with wines that over-deliver on quality and pedigree. The grapes for the red wines are sourced primarily from the Rutherford AVA and complemented with top-quality fruit from Howell Mountain and Mount Veeder; while the Chardonnay is from the much cooler Los Carneros area. Winemaker Ted Edwards has been at the winemaking helm of Freemark Abbey and working with many of the same growers for almost 30 years, bringing a master’s touch and consistency to this Napa Legend.
