"Lafite Rothschild of Washington State." - Robert Parker
Robert Parker has called DeLille Cellars the “Lafite Rothschild of Washington State.” It is no coincidence that this boutique winery is often compared with First-Growth Bordeaux Chateaux. DeLille Cellars is dedicated to handcrafting elegant wines in the Bordeaux style, using only the very finest hand sorted grape clusters to make their wine. These sophisticated wines are made to uncompromising standards of quality. All of the wines are aged in new French oak and are bottled unfiltered. Winemaker Chris Upchurch talks in terms of ‘complete wine’, with qualities like opulence, mouthfeel, balance and elegance. Chris’ goal is simple: to blend the very best hand-crafted, Bordeaux style red and white wines made in the state of Washington. A satestament to his success, DeLille set the record for the highest price paid for a bottle of Washington State wine at auction ($16,000 in 1997).

This energetic, canary yellow wine presents a complex nose with aromas of grapefruit, golden hay, lemon zest, petrichor and pastry dough. 2019 Chaleur Blanc offers fresh fruit flavors of apricot and white peach on the palate, deliciously balanced with savory herb notes of basil and tarragon. This vintage is well proportioned throughout, with integrated barrel notes and the cuvee’s traditional crisp acidity.
2016 D2, the 25th vintage of this remarkable cuvee, leaps from the glass with an impressive and inviting abundance of fruit aromas - pomegranate, fresh blueberry and currant. Restrained oak influence enrobes the fruit, adding cocoa nibs and cherry cordial. Dense and vibrant on the palate, with a pure fruit core, the wine offers elegant tannin and remarkable integration, with incredibly balanced barrel infulience and cabernet presence to support an extended finish.
The fruit aromas of the 2016 Four Flags are fresh and focused, with blueberry, rec currant and pomegranate mingling with barrel note of cocoa nibs and wood smoke. Sourced solely from Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine beautifully showcases the typicity of the AVA, with inviting notes of cedar, lavender and bay leaf. The palate offers generous flavors, with chocolate covered cherries and tapenade carried by fresh acidity. Ample, fine-grained tannins carry the flavors through a lenghty finish, promising many years of graceful aging.
The 2017 Chaleur Estate is another stunning vintage for this, Washington State's original Bordeaux blend. Highly aromatic on the nose, with floral lavender, cassis and cedar complimented by dark chocolate, spice and lead pencil. In contrast to such an elegant nose, the palate is extreamely robust and concentrated, with great energy and an explosive entry filled with cherry and blackberry. An extended, persistent finish is driven by this cuvee's traditionally fine-grained tannin.
Leading with a lifted floral scent and a hint of spice, the palate follows with a surprisingly feminine texture showing traces of fresh cherry and wild brambleberry. Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) provides a unique black cherry color while Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (9%), and Petit Verdot (1%) bring subtle undertones lending an even richer voice to this wine.
The 2014 Grand Ciel Cabernet Sauvignon offers impeccable balance, emphasizing the focus and elegance of our estate vineyard. The power and structure of Red Mountain is showcased in the aromas of blue and black fruits with dried earth, Herbs de Provance and subtle rose petal notes. The wine is forward and powerfully dense in the mouth, while remaining remarkably supple. Cassis, anis, pomegranate and marmalade flavors give way to integrated eucalyptus and sous bois (forest floor) nuances from the cooperage. A long finish promises exceptional cellaring time.
