A Holistic Approach to Quality
|
|
Named after the sedimentary soils of the vineyard, Willakenzie is a family-owned operation which is devoted to making great wines of the Pinot family: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Meunier, and Gamay Noir (a cousin of Pinot Noir). Producing Pinots with intense flavors, robust structures, round and supple tannins is Willakenzie’s passion and raison d'etre. Willakenzie is strongly committed to sustainable farming that respects the soil, environment, plants and people. Beneficial organisms such as earthworms and fungi are encouraged to maintain the health of the soil. Only organic fungicides are used to keep the vines healthy. Pastures, patches of blackberry and Douglas Firs are interspersed throughout the vineyards to preserve a natural environment that can support natural rodent predators such as hawks, owls, and coyotes. This commitment extends to people as well – highly unusual in American agriculture - Willakenzie provides year round employment and health benefits for their vineyard workers. Wines are gently handled at every stage of development in the 100% gravity flow winery. Willakenzie believes that this holistic approach to quality: of wine, people, and environment, will make the best quality wines.
